24th September 201518th January 2022 Northumberland – Sep 2015 Castles and Seals A friend was unable to use a place on the Northumberland coast for a short break they'd booked, so… Dunstanburgh Castle seen from Ebb's Nook, Beadnell To prove it, the close up! Bamburgh Castle, seen from Seahouses. For a couple of months, the Farne Islands are home to lots of puffins. At the moment, it's mostly seals… … lots of seals! Bamburgh Castle, seen from Lindisfarne. Ross Sands is between the two. Looking across the water to the mainland, it looked to me like there were birds on a sandbank. No, the sound we could hear wasn't wind, it was seals.. lots of seals. At this point, the rain started arriving – this is not a B/W image! .. but it quickly passed, creating this rainbow, with Lindisfarne Castle in the background On the way back on the last day, the tide was in at Budle Bay, just to the north of Bamburgh. You can see the south end of Ross Sands in the background. It's a long beach… … a very long beach. This was in September, but it was like that in the summers I spent here too, three miles of beach shared between about ten small groups.
